Toronto Factory Lofts are former industrial use buildings (warehouse, factory…) that have been converted to living space. For all intensive purposes a factory loft is what most people think about when they hear the word loft. Factory lofts are also sometimes referred to as hard lofts, true lofts or raw lofts. Toronto factory lofts are rough around the edges listed below are some of the unique characteristics of Toronto factory lofts:
- Cement or original hardwood floors
- Exposed cement or wood columns
- Exposed wood beams
- Open floor plan
(Typically the only closed off room is the bathroom and maybe the kitchen) - Brick walls
- Big factory windows
- Could or could not have a mezzanine level open to the main floor
- High ceilings 12’ plus
- Exposed duct and plumbing
- Low building maintenance fees
- Combination of original building materials with modern materials (i.e. a dry walled wall butting up against a brick wall)
Additionally, there are tax benefits to working from a loft home, as most are zoned for both for live/work.
A great example of a factory loft is the Wrigley or I-Zone.
