About The Area
The Annex is Toronto’s most Heterogeneous community. Its resident’s include successful business people, prominent artists, University of Toronto faculty and their students as well as people from all walks of life. Most Annex homes were built between 1880 and 1910 and are fine examples of Victorian, Queen Anne and Richardson Romanesque architectural styles. Second waves of Annex homes followed 20 years later and are excellent examples of English Cottage, Georgian and Tudor style architecture. The architectural details are among some of the cities finest ranging from pyramidal roofs and turrets to recessed grand archways and wooden spindled porches. Today when you walk through the Annex there is an undeniable buzz in the air created from the pubs and trendy restaurants. Currently many of the rooming houses and multiplex’s are now being returned to the original purpose of single family residential. The homes are too grand, and the area is too close to downtown to be left to the students. The Annex remains one of Toronto’s elite neighbourhoods.
