About The Area

Toronto’s downtown east begins just south of Rosedale. There is the Gay Village starting south of Bloor from Yonge to Jarvis and as far south as Carlton, it is affectionately known as “Boys Town”. The area is comprised of many Apartment buildings and Condominiums. Just East of Jarvis is St James Town, a scary part of the city. As soon as you cross Parliament St and you are smack in the middle of Cabbagetown, one of Toronto’s most sought after areas. Filled with striking Victorians the area has become very desirable and has employed many of Toronto’s most skilled tradesmen. It gets a little scary again as you continue south of Cabbagetown and into Regent Park, but soon that will be changed as the Regent Park Revitalization project is underway. Previously Regent Park was exclusively for Subsidized housing and had a lot of problems with drugs, prostitutes and gangs. The city is tearing all of that housing down and Daniel’s is replacing it with private housing blended with subsidized homes in between. The logic is that people will learn and be inspired by their neighbours. As soon as you cross south of Richmond you are into the trendiest furniture shopping area in the city. There are some fabulous converted lofts and condos along King and Queen East. The other neighbourhood that is nearby and sought after is St Lawrence Market, though popular most of the week, the market comes to life on Saturdays. Farmers, food and flowers – always a winning combination! This historic area also has numerous old warehouses that have been converted into residences, stores, restaurants and pubs.
