House Hunting: Wants vs. Needs

Any responsible Toronto real estate agent will advise that you analyze your wants and needs before you start your house search. It is rather tempting to jump onto MLS.ca and just start searching. But if you have not really thought about what you want and need than it is easy to become overwhelmed with all of the options out there. One of the simplest and most time efficient ways to do this is to list out that which you want in a property. You will want to break the list down into a couple of sub lists such as:

-    Your absolute must have’s in order for you to consider the property
-    The features that are essential (but not make it or break it)
-    The things that you would like to have

Picture yourself in your new Toronto home, how long do you think you will be there? What are some of your anticipated future needs? Larger family? Second, third car? This exercise should get you on your way to figuring out what you want in a home.
